Description

The OEM N55 Wastegate Actuator is a crucial component in the turbocharging system of the N55 engine, commonly found in various BMW models. The wastegate actuator is responsible for controlling the flow of exhaust gases to the turbocharger, which in turn regulates the boost pressure. However, over time, the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) wastegate actuators are known to be a common failure point in the system.

When the OEM N55 Wastegate Actuator malfunctions, it can result in a significant decrease in boost pressure or, in some cases, no boost at all. Boost pressure is essential for optimizing engine performance, and any deviation from the intended levels can impact power output and overall efficiency.

To address this issue, aftermarket wastegate actuators have been developed, with one notable example being an upgraded version that boasts improvements over the original. This aftermarket Wastegate Actuator is designed to address the shortcomings of the OEM component and enhance the turbocharging system’s performance.

One key advantage of this upgraded wastegate actuator is its ability to add approximately 2 pounds per square inch (psi) of boost over the OEM actuator when operating at the same Wastegate Duty Cycle (WGDC). The WGDC is a measure of how much the wastegate is open or closed, influencing the amount of exhaust gases that bypass the turbocharger.

By providing an additional 2 psi of boost, this aftermarket wastegate actuator contributes to increased overall engine performance. This enhanced boost pressure can result in improved throttle response, increased horsepower, and a more enjoyable driving experience. Drivers seeking a boost in performance or those who have experienced issues with their OEM wastegate actuators may consider upgrading to this aftermarket solution as part of a performance enhancement strategy.

It’s important for car enthusiasts and mechanics to be aware of common failure points in a vehicle’s turbocharging system, such as the wastegate actuator, and to consider aftermarket solutions that address these issues for optimal performance and reliability.
